Frequently asked questions.
Are there single rooms?
We get asked this a lot, and we completely understand why. Many of us cherish our quiet time, and having a room to ourselves can feel like a luxury.
At this time, we do not offer single-room accommodations. With our intimate retreat size and limited space, we need a minimum number of participants to make each retreat financially sustainable. Offering private rooms would significantly reduce our capacity and make it difficult for us to continue providing the experience, amenities, meals, and personalized hospitality that make Flying Geese Retreat special.
That said, room sharing often becomes one of the most meaningful parts of the retreat experience. Many flock members arrive as strangers and leave with new friendships, quilting buddies, travel companions, and connections that last long after the final stitch is sewn. We've heard countless stories of roommates who exchanged ideas, shared laughs, encouraged each other's creativity, and stayed in touch long after returning home.
We work hard to create a welcoming, respectful environment and thoughtfully assign rooms whenever possible. While we can't guarantee a private room, we can promise a warm community, plenty of personal space throughout the retreat, and an experience designed to help you relax, create, and connect.
Who knows? Your next favorite quilting friend might be waiting just across the room. 🪿💕
Do I have to stay at the retreat in order to participate?
Not at all! We offer Day Camper rates for those who want the full Flying Geese Retreat experience with our staying overnight.
As a Day Camper, you'll enjoy all the fun of retreat life—including meals, unlimited sewing time, creative inspiration, and the camaraderie of fellow quilters—then head home, to a hotel, or wherever you choose to rest your head at the end of the day.
Whether you prefer the comfort of your own bed, have local accommodations, or simply want a little extra flexibility, our Day Camper option lets you be part of the flock while sleeping when and where you like.
All the quilting. All the community. Your choice of pillow.
Are their quilt shops near by?
There is currently one shop in Aberdeen, about 30 minutes from Flying Geese Retreat. There hours are limited (typically Monday - Friday, 10 am - 3pm), and they have announced plans to close in October 2026. Beyond that, the next closest quilt shops are approximately 1.5 hours away.
But don't worry—we've got you covered!
We keep a small selection of quilting essentials on hand, including blenders, neutral solids, and a variety of fun prints for those unexpected project needs. And we're excited to share that our expansion begins in July, which includes plans for a cozy onsite shop featuring an expanded selection of fabric, notions, and other quilting necessities.
So if you forget something, need a little extra fabric, or find yourself inspired by a new project, there's a good chance you'll find exactly what you need without leaving the retreat.
After all, we'd rather have you sewing than shopping. 🪿🧵
